THE YEAR 1989
Around the 25th anniversary, WEMO had approximately 90 employees. WEMO designed and built fully automatic, computer-controlled production lines for punching and bending metal sheets and tubes for the sheet metal processing industry. These solutions produced items such as desk drawers, lighting fixtures, doors, and panels for refrigerators, dishwashers, range hoods, and office furniture. From simple punch units to fully automated processing lines over 30 meters in length, WEMO’s revenue amounted to more than 20 million guilders per year. Additionally, WEMO developed software with programs that allowed for ultra-fast product changes.
“At a trade fair, we encountered a Swiss technician who was selling presses that had been made obsolete by the hydro units developed by WEMO.” said Sip Hoekstra. This marked the beginning of exports in 1973. “If you see the opportunity to sell your products in Switzerland, the rest will follow naturally.”
